Summer Acadia Artist Retreat 2017
June 18, 2017 @ 8:00 am - June 24, 2017 @ 5:00 pm$1,347
Join other artists for a creative adventure at the rocky shores and rich maritime forests of Schoodic Point at Acadia National Park. Four Master Artists and several ranger/naturalists will be your program leaders for a week of inspiration focusing on the maritime forest and coastal ecology in this quiet yet spectacular area of the coast near Winter Harbor, Maine. We invite you to enjoy this unique opportunity to learn more about the ecology of the natural subjects you paint, to gain inspiration from associating with other environmentally-oriented artists, and to get out there and paint!
Comfortable housing and a meal plan are part of this package so you can concentrate on your art! The workshop is designed to be flexible. Frequently artists get together in the late afternoon or evening to debrief the day and critique each other’s work in a supportive atmosphere. Impromptu games of cards, social hours, and early morning walks are often arranged by participants during off time.
Guest Artist Program Leaders:
Jana Matusz http://janamatusz.com/ uses her extensive experience in plein air painting to share tips about strategy, equipment, and where to find the best places on the Schoodic Peninsula to set up your easel.
Melissa Fischer http://www.melissafischer.com/, nature artist, will focus on field sketching of wildlife in their habitats, emphasizing techniques for quick sketching of moving subjects to enhance observation and learning.
Ron Parlin will introduce a variety of ways to start an oil painting.
Linda Mahoney www.lmahoneyprints.com will be painting watercolors en plein air and will share her process of selecting her subjects. She will show how she identifies and expresses the essential “spirit of place” in the landscape by focusing on compositional design and the simplification of details.
