Rapid changes to the environment demand that we look more deeply at the ocean for clues about the evolving ecology of the Maine coast. Learn more during ‘Schoodic Institute Day’ on board one of Bar Harbor Whale Watch‘s three deep water cruises on July 15th: 8:30am, 1:00pm, and 4:30pm.
Thanks to the generosity of Bar Harbor Whale Watch, Schoodic Institute Day will feature our noted ornithologist Seth Benz for the morning cruise and a closer look at Petit Manan, an island representing a true conservation success story – its protected habitat provides for a magnificent diversity of nesting seabirds, including puffins! Seth Benz will also be on board the 1:00pm, and at 4:30pm, Schoodic Institute President & CEO, Mark Berry, will be Schoodic Institute’s special guest on the final voyage.
“We greatly appreciate Bar Harbor Whale Watch for supporting Schoodic Institute, and featuring our personnel on board their excursions for “Schoodic Institute Day,” said Mark Berry, Schoodic Institute President and CEO, “Bar Harbor Whale Watch is a great partner supporting ecosystem science and learning for all ages.”
All trips will be hosted by the talented staff of Bar Harbor Whale Watch, who specialize in bringing passengers to the most abundant whale sighting waters. The Gulf of Maine is an extremely special destination for education and scientific research.
“Schoodic Institute’s mandate as the international center for citizen science aligns perfectly with our efforts to make every whale watch trip a research trip that gives back to the ocean,” said Zack Klyver, Naturalist, Bar Harbor Whale Watch Company, “We are honored and thrilled to support their important work and mission.”
Please join us for a trip on July 15th, and this amazing day of science, exploration, and fun for the whole family!
