A Child’s Introduction to Mammals of Maine

A variety of pelts will be available for children to see, touch, and smell.  Through a series of physically active simulations we will become acquainted with animal habitats and needs for food, water, shelter, and space.  For example, during a variation of “tag” children will experience the predator-prey relationship and benefit to conserve natural environments. On Saturday, February, 9, 2019, Lee Kantar, State Moose Biologist will discuss aspects of moose biology and management in Maine, highlighting some of the things that make moose so unique as well as research currently underway in Maine which has one of the highest concentrations of moose in the lower 48 states.
